SCOTLANDVILLE EAGLES CHEER SQUAD
HISTORY

The Scotlandville Magnet High School Cheerleaders were formed in the fall of 1998 by Ms. Traci Morgan. Mrs. Shavonne Anderson took over after Ms. Morgan accepted another job. The squad started out with 16 girls on a varsity squad. As the years progressed more young ladies joined the squad and in 1999-2000 the squad consisted of 19 young ladies and 1 young man. The squad performed for the first time away from SMHS at Southern University.

The turn out for try-outs for the following school were so spectacular that Mrs. Anderson decided to incorporate a jr. varsity squad for the 2000-2001 school year. The 2000-2001 school year was the first year that SMHS competed in a cheer competition. Mrs. Anderson solicited the help of two SMHS graduates who were SU cheerleaders , Mr. Avery Wilson and Mr. Wesley Wells. These young men worked very hard to help SMHS prepare for competition. The squad competed at the SCA National Championship in New Orleans, La where they received second runner up.

The 2001-2002 school year was a hard year for SMHS, they came in last place at the SCA Championship.  After finishing in last place, Coach Wesley Wells vowed to  the squad that they would never finish last again.

The 2002-2003 school year was truly a blessing for the SMHS cheer squad. The Jr. varsity squad consisted of 13 members and the varsity Squad has 15 members. In 2003 Coach Wells and Mrs. Anderson decided to recruit some young men for the competition squad. The squad has 6 young men along with 28 young ladies. The first competition for the year was SCA National Cheer Championship on January 5, 2003 in Lafayette, La. The squad worked very hard and performed a nearly flawless routine. All of their hard work paid off and they were named SCA Varsity Co-Ed National Champions Southwestern Cheerleading Association Nationals 2003. The squad then competed at the Istrouma High Cheer Competition claiming the place as the best cheer squad in Baton Rouge. A few weeks later they traveled to Black College Nationals in Atlanta, Ga and competed in a higher/harder division (All-Star) where they claimed the Runner-Up spot in a closely contested division. The last event for the 2003 competition season was held in Houston, Tx at Astroworld (CheerPower). The squad had to overcome a few obstacles and a major rain delay, but still pulled off an outstanding crowd pleasing performance, landing them again in the top position, becoming the Varsity Co-Ed CheerPower Cheerfest Champions. Also getting a 2004 CheerPower Nationals Bid.

With the blessings of God and the support of parents and friends, the SMHS cheer squad has truly prospered throughout the years and they are always striving to do new and innovative skills, compete with the best cheer squads around, and represent there community with great pride.
